GIVING

Individuals give 75% of all the money that charities receive. Most people give out of friendship, faith, love, or a desire to make a difference.  The Hord Foundation, Inc., a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization, relies on the friendship, support and contributions of its volunteers and donors. Our goal is to help make a difference in the lives of those African American students who desire to obtain a college education. The Foundation’s ability to provide over $250,000 in college scholarships to area African American students is dependent upon the generosity of the entire community including, corporations, churches, and individuals.

Fundraising Events

The Hord Foundation, Inc. conducts two major fundraising events:

  • The Black-Tie-Optional Annual Gala
  • Annual Benefit Concert

Leave a Legacy

Consider leaving a legacy.  The options are vast: bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, life insurance, stocks, bonds, jewelry even real estate.

  • Bequests - are provisions in either your will or your living trust, which provide that, all or a portion of your estate is to pass to a charitable organization such as The Hord Foundation, Inc.
  • Charitable Gift Annuity - To create a CGA, you would agree to donate cash, stock, or other assets—usually at least $5,000 to $10,000 worth—to a charity. In return, you would receive a fixed payment, called an annuity, for life plus tax benefits. Caution: The donation is irreversible and can never be retrieved from the charity, even if there's a personal emergency or the charity goes bankrupt. Also, if you die, your heirs have no claim to the donation1.
  • Charitable Trusts – Assets are placed in a trust that provides benefits to designated persons for a period of time, after which the remainder is distributed to a charity or charities.
  • Life Insurance – Consider donating your life insurance policy to the Hord Foundation, Inc. and leave a legacy.
  • Stocks – You could transfer appreciated stock equities, or designate an IRA distribution and gain a tax benefit at the same time.

If you decide to leave a legacy, please consider sharing your plan with your attorney and financial advisors, who will draft appropriate language and help structure the gift effectively.

Employee Giving Campaigns

Through a matching contribution program, companies engaged in  ‘Employee Giving Campaigns’ allow employees to direct corporate contributions to a nonprofit organization such as the Hord Foundation, Inc.  Many companies match dollar for dollar the donations that their employees make to eligible nonprofits..

Does your company support Employee Giving Campaigns?  If they do, please consider making The Hord Foundation, Inc., part of your company’s ‘Employee Giving Campaign’.
